Is a Revision Facelift Safe After a Previous Facelift?

Yes, a revision facelift is not only safe but often necessary when the first surgery was a more superficial lift. Many facelifts that do not last long - sometimes just a few months or a couple of years - are what we call skin-only or SMAS-pulling facelifts. These only tighten the surface without addressing the deeper layers. It is like pulling the duvet cover tight without fixing the mattress underneath. Everything might look smoother at first, but the structure hasn’t been properly repositioned, so sagging quickly returns.

That is where deep plane facelift surgery comes in. Instead of pulling at the surface, we go deeper into the natural gliding plane beneath the SMAS layer - the area where facial tissues are meant to move. This is especially important for revision facelifts, because even if someone has had surgery before, these deeper planes are often untouched. So when I go in, it is like performing a first-time facelift in that area. No added risk, no extra trauma - just a better foundation and longer-lasting results.
