Why you may consider hairline surgery

Our hairline acts as a natural framework for our face. A high hairline leads to a prominent forehead, which can be out of proportion with the rest of the facial features. This can weigh heavily on a person’s self-esteem. Patients who are self-conscious about their high hairline often try to camouflage it by wearing certain hairstyles, or a hat. Everyday situations like windy weather, going for a swim or having a photo taken can suddenly turn into stressful moments of frustration, as they hope that their high hairline will not involuntarily become visible.

Unfortunately, many people who are self-conscious about their high hairline, are unaware of an effective procedure that can put an end to their worries. It is time to enjoy every day, and leave those long-lived frustrations behind.

The principle of
equal thirds

Since the Renaissance artists used the principle of equal thirds as a guide of proportions for creating appealing, and well-balanced faces. A harmonious face can be subdivided into three horizontal sections, that are all the same height:

  • The lower face (from your chin to the base of your nose)
  • The middle face (from the base of your nose to the level of your eyebrows)
  • The lower face (from your chin to the base of your nose)

A disproportionally high hairline, leads to a prominent forehead that can divert attention from one’s otherwise balanced facial features.

FAQ - Hairline

Simple, easy to understand answers to the most frequently asked questions by our hairline surgery patients.

How much reduction is possible?

Usually about 2-2.5cm of hairline lowering can be achieved, however this depends greatly on scalp laxity. Following an assessment and measurements taken during your consultation, we will be able to establish the degree of hairline lowering. It is important to take into consideration the overall proportions of your face when planning the new hairline. Mr. Bran will be able to help you identify an ideal and realistic position.

What are the benefits of hairline lowering?

Hairline lowering is both an effective and efficient procedure that can significantly improve the overall balance of a face. The results last a lifetime. It leads to instant gratification, as patients are able to see the difference immediately after surgery.

What is the goal of hairline lowering?

Hairline lowering, also known as forehead reduction is a surgical procedure that aims to correct an overly high forehead by bringing the hair-bearing tissue of the scalp forward. It reduces the height of the forehead and thereby improves the overall balance of the facial proportions.

What results can I expect after hairline lowering?

You will be able to enjoy the new, lowered position of your hairline immediately after surgery. Once the swelling has settled and the scar has healed well, your forehead will appear well-balanced with your face. Previous worries like windy weather, going for a swim or having a photo taken will belong to the past. Your result is permanent.

What is the recovery after hairline lowering?

We advise our patients to allocate enough time for their recovery. In the first 7 to 10 days you should expect some swelling around your forehead, which may descend to your temples and cheeks. Bruising is rare. Removal of sutures is usually scheduled between days 7 and 10 (depending on your skin type and details of your procedure). You can return to work after about 2 weeks. You are to refrain from any vigorous activity or exercise for 4 weeks. Exercise increases your blood pressure, which in turn can increase swelling, or worse bleeding. The sensation of your scalp will be reduced, but will return after several months. It is normal to experience itchiness and tingling sensations along the scalp once the sensation starts to return. This is a sign of the nerves recovering.

Three months prior to this date I decided to make one of the biggest decisions a person can make. The decision of undertaking cosmetic surgery is one that will remain with you for the rest of your life, thus choosing your surgeon to make this change for you is vital. The process of choosing your surgeon is lengthier than the actual procedure itself.Important questions must be asked and answered appropriately in order to ensure confidence in your surgeon and the changes that will be made to your appearance. I met many surgeons before I chose Dr GB. I had consultations in the UK and overseas. I explored all my options. I took into consideration experience of the surgeon, recovery time, which rhinoplasty was chosen, reviews from previous patients, aftercare, and of course the price etc. However, Dr GB went beyond my expectation during my initial consultation with him. He covered aspects which I had not even considered, aspects which were not necessary but useful i.e. why the abnormalities were present to begin with. All you need is one meeting with your surgeon. In that initial consultation if you don’t feel confident, move on. A Harley street surgeon in itself speaks volume, however I’ll still say for everyone looking to do rhinoplasty, (I had open rhinoplasty) that I would strongly advice for you to look no further and book your consultation with Dr GB, for I assure you, you will not be disappointed. My procedure took place at Weymouth Hospital. My procedure was approximately 4 hours. This included preparation, anaesthetics and gaining consciousness post operatively. I stayed in hospital for one night after my operation, which I would strongly advice. The care that was provided for me after my surgery was perfect. I couldn’t have asked for anything to be changed. For myself the most impressive aspect of the entire process was the pain management. I expected it to be a lot more painful, however the entire medical team handled that aspect extremely well. It was one of the first questions that was asked when I woke up from my surgery and then a regular one throughout the night. The nurses administered pain killers accordingly and i can honestly say the pain is definitely bearable. Of course, everyone’s pain response is variable, however, for those that know me are aware I do not handle pain well, I don’t even like needles! However surprisingly I can say it was endurable. I can write so much more about why I made the right decision by choosing Dr GB however I’ll stop here. There is so much detail in this procedure from the moment the thought is in your mind to a year after recovery and many questions that you may want answered from a patient’s point of view. If that’s ever the case, reviews are the best way to try answer them. I hope this is useful for many of you and helps built confidence in your decision.‍

Amazing!! He is incredible and I consider Dr Bran the best in his field. I am nervous about needles and Dr Bran is so chill and calming I didn’t even know it was happening. The efficacy of service was beyond my expectations and I would come back for life if I lived in the same country as Dr Bran so sadly I have to make it only when I am in town.
